We just received a delicious donation of fruit and We just received a delicious donation of fruit and veg from a couple who have a plot in the Newtonhill allotments. We are always delighted to receive homegrown donations, they never go to waste. These are in our larder fridge ready for folk to take during our Friday shift today 5pm-7pm.

If you grow food at home, at an allotment or on a farm we'll happily take any surplus and distribute it. Last year we had fun harvesting fruit trees in the community and giving the fruit away in the larder or turning it into tasty preserves. We are planning on harvesting fruit again this year. If you or anyone you know has a fruit tree laden with plums, pears or apples and you want help harvesting it please let us know and we'll come with a team of Haven Helper Harvesters and pick it for you.

The soups this month are Moroccan Lentil & quinoa, a hearty warming soup. The second choice will be courgette & lemon because it's that time of year when courgette plants are producing lots of courgettes! Check out the photos of the courgettes harvested today at our Haven Plot.
If you grow fruit or veg and have surplus then we are always happy to receive a donation of some in the larder. We'll either give it away as is, turn it into soup or another tasty meal, or we'll use it to make chutneys or jams. It won't go to waste!

Does anyone want some fresh locally grown lettuce? Does anyone want some fresh locally grown lettuce? We've had two generous donations of different varieties. @pillarkincardine has been growing lettuce in their allotment plot and they have kindly given us some to share with larder visitors. We've also got organic little gem lettuces from Lembas. Lembas is a local organic farm based in Bridge of Muchalls and they often give us surplus veg to distribute.
We are always happy when people bring in tins, dried goods or toiletries to swap for fresh produce.

Today we had a visit from Haven Helper Mia. Mia has in the past helped organise fruit and drop off shopping. Today she was on a very important task - restocking teddies and dollies knitted by her grandma Irene.

We are still looking for a Haven Helper with a huge heart who has the potential to be the pied piper of teddies with knowledge of knitting or crochet to coordinate and recruit knitters far and wide.

Please email Julie at havenhelpersstonehaven@gmail.com or pop into the Larder if you are the volunteer for this very important task.

Thanks so much to Sandra from @ava.shire to come h Thanks so much to Sandra from @ava.shire to come have a tour of our three locations in Stonehaven and see how we are using the Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund in action.

Sandra was instrumental in helping us develop our Haven Helper Volunteer program back in 2020 - at that stage called our Haven Helper Pioneers - a community driven meaningful volunteering based on connection and relationships.

We never envisioned it being put into action a few weeks later when the pandemic hit and having 70+ Haven Helpers.

There was so much to see Sandra had to close her eyes 🤣

Looking forward to seeing more in person from Ava Shire
Today was Graduation day for Haven Helper Georgia. Today was Graduation day for Haven Helper Georgia.

Georgia has volunteered at the Larder since the beginning and chose to write her dissertation on the Haven Community Larder - “Food for thought: what can a local Community Food Larder teach us about food (in)security, (re)distribution, and Community Resilience?’. Georgia interviewed 19 people as research for her dissertation.

Today Georgia graduated with a First Class Honours in Sociology and also achieved the most successful student in Sociology award.

Congratulations Georgia. Everyone at the Haven is very proud of you.

As part of our Future Healthy Choices Project our vegetable of the week has been Kholrabi.

We completed a snap survey to see what fruit and vegetables people would like to try but as a result of the generosity of some gardeners we have also had kale, tree spinach, mallow, arrow lettuce, strawberries and rhubarb for Larder visitors too this week.

Take what you need, give what you can.

We get so many women seeking, enquirying and askin We get so many women seeking, enquirying and asking for The Haven to have a Women's Circle.

We are delighted to have Embodied Therapy - Aberdeen to offer the first circle this Sunday evening. This is on a donation basis with all funds raised going to support the Community Food Larder.

This is a perfect opportunity for anyone curious to experience what a Women's Circle is like to come and try.

Please can you help us spread the word so those who want to come along know. It is so important, even more so "post" Covid, that we support and show up for the things we are seeking in our community.

We are delighted to announce our new charitable st We are delighted to announce our new charitable status that was granted last week.

Since 2017 we have been operating as a not-for-profit organisation and pre-pandemic were on the path of being self sustaining. Since the pandemic we now have our community larder and teaching garden supporting community wellbeing during a cost of living and energy crisis.

We enter this new chapter that encompasses all the ways our community and organisation have grown and evolved through challenging times together.
